LONDON (AP) — U.S. support for Ukraine remains “unwaveringly strong” despite news that the stop-gap budget Congress passed to avert a federal government shutdown will not include new financial support for Kyiv, a Ukrainian official said Sunday.Oleg Nikolenko, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, said a shutdown could have impacted ongoing aid programs but that the temporary budget would not affect the billions of dollars of financial assistance already pledged by lawmakers in Washington.“Support for Ukraine remains unwaveringly strong both in the U.S. administration, in both parties, in the houses of the U.S. Congress and most importantly, among the American people,” Nikolenko wrote on social media. The omission of additional Ukrainian aid from the shortr-term funding bill, which aims to keep the federal government running until Nov. 17, has raised concerns for a country that relies heavily on Western support in its fight against Russia’s ongoing invasion.A little m...

Costco CEO comments on possible membership price hike: 'You'll see it happen'

Published Sun, 16 Feb 2025 16:17:54 GMT

(NEXSTAR) – As ever, the chief financial officer of Costco remains vague about any plans to increase membership fees. But make no mistake: The price hikes are coming.“It’s a question of when, not if,” Costco CFO Richard Galanti said during an earnings call last week, echoing previous statements he’s made in past calls.“You know, it's a little longer this time around since June of '17, so we're six years into it,” he added, referring to the last time Costco raised fees in 2017 (up from $55 to $60 for Gold Star members, and from $110 to $120 for executive memberships). “But you'll see it happen at some point. We can’t really tell you if it’s in our plans or not.” Costco crackdown: Can people in my household still use my Costco membership? In the 15 years prior to 2017’s membership increase, Costco had raised fees every five years and seven months, on average, as Galanti himself noted in a 2022 earnings call. If that trend had held steady, another price hike would have taken effect i...

The new zero-bail policy takes effect in L.A. County on Saturday, but the controversial law is causing a stir amongst residents and law enforcement officials alike. The policy would allow some criminal suspects with non-violent or non-serious crimes to be cited and released when they would have previously been held on bond. A decision was made in July by the Los Angeles County Superior Court to institute the system, but less than 24 hours after the policy was made law, there was already controversy.  Video shows thieves ransacking Nike store in Southern California Court papers submitted to the L.A. Jrue Holiday being traded to Boston, AP source says, as Portland continues making moves

Published Sun, 16 Feb 2025 16:17:54 GMT

Jrue Holiday is being traded to the Boston Celtics, a person with knowledge of the agreement said Sunday, a move that comes just four days after being sent to the Portland Trail Blazers in the deal that sent Damian Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks.Holiday goes to the Celtics in exchange for Malcolm Brogdon, Robert Williams and two future first-round draft picks, said the person, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade has yet to be approved by the league.ESPN first reported the agreement.Flipping Holiday for Brogdon, Williams and more draft capital means the Trail Blazers have turned Lillard into four players (with Deandre Ayton and Toumani Camara also included as part of Wednesday’s deal), three first-round picks and two pick swaps. That’s a strong haul for Lillard, the seven-time All-Star who was officially welcomed to Milwaukee by his new team on Saturday.___AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hub/NBASource
