CLEVELAND — The ghost of All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado was nowhere to be found on a cold Monday night at Progressive Field. Austin Gomber made sure of that. The left-hander pitched five scoreless innings and led the Rockies to a desperately needed 6-0 victory over the Guardians. The Rockies snapped a three-game losing streak and won for just the second time in their past 13 games.Colorado had 10 hits to Cleveland’s four and got an early boost on Jurickson Profar’s first-inning solo home run off Cal Quantrill. After Gomber’s disastrous start last Wednesday against the Pirates at Coors Field, when he allowed nine runs on nine hits in just two innings, the left-hander admitted that being the centerpiece of the lopsided Feb. 1, 2021 trade that sent Arenado to St. Louis still spooked him.“In the past, I tried not to worry about (the trade), and I think I was better at that earlier on when I was here,” Gomber said. “But the longer I’ve been h...Jets agree on deal to acquire Aaron Rodgers, AP source says

Some things to go through.”The Jets will receive Rodgers, the No. 15 overall pick and a fifth-rounder this year from the Packers, according to another person with knowledge of ...Hiring in Colorado last month was the weakest since the end of 2020

Colorado employers shed an estimated 4,700 nonfarm jobs between March and February, the largest monthly decline the state has suffered since December 2020, when a surge in COVID-19 cases triggered restrictions on indoor dining and resulted in a loss of 21,800 jobs.Robust February job gains were cut in half on revision as well, from 6,200 jobs to 3,000, according to a monthly update from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment released Friday. The state lost a net 2,400 jobs in the first quarter, making it one of only four states to have a job deficit in 2023.Reductions were widespread, with the biggest losses coming in professional and business services, down by 2,200 jobs; trade, transportation, and utilities, down by 2,000 and financial activities, down by 1,900. Drilling deeper into individual sectors, losses were greatest in administrative support, retail and finance and insurance jobs, said Ryan Gedney, a senior labor economist with the CDLE.The situation would be even ...Safety on Hollywood's Walk of Fame has 'gone from bad to worse,' workers say

California Republicans are asking state regulators to reject a proposal by California's three largest power companies to create a fixed rate for services based on household income."The ‘fixed-charge’ proposal is nothing but a shameful attempt to exploit and rip off residential customers,’” Senate Republicans said in a letter sent to California’s Public Utilities Commission last week. “Another name for this proposal could be the 'Hard Work Utility Tax,' as it is an unjust and regressive plan that fails to recognize the differences in energy usage among households and unfairly burdens lower-income families.”The passage of Assembly Bill 205 required utilities to simplify power bills while lower costs for lower-income residents. As a result, Southern California Edison, Pacific Gas & Electric and San Diego Gas & Electric submitted a joint proposal to the CPUC earlier this month to create a tiered fixed-rate system that would cover basic services and operating costs.Hous...Fulton County DA will announce fraud charges this summer

OAKLAND – Jane Diehl sat in her wheelchair on Monday morning outside her family’s East Oakland apartment. A bullet hole could be seen in the tan stucco wall behind her.Less than 48 hours earlier, the 70-year-old’s daughter and teenage granddaughter were shot dead in a horrific double slaying inside the Birch Street unit. The last thing Diehl heard the 13-year-old say was, “don’t shoot me.”“I’m trying to be strong, but I just need to sit a while,” the grandmother said. “It feels good to be in the sun.”On Saturday night, Diehl’s 44-year-old daughter, Rebecca Jenkins, and her granddaughter, Desiree, were shot in an apparently random act of domestic violence that happened during a sleepover. Jenkins was killed in front of her infant, while a 12-year-old staying the night was wounded in the leg, police said. The suspect, Jenkins on-again-off-again boyfriend, Antonio Lamont Powell, was arrested and is currently being held at Santa Rita Jail without bail. Seventy of the 347 deaths reported at the 17 California parks included in NPS’s report were labeled as medical deaths.
